It’s Hard Being a Sleepy Girl with a Busy Life

There’s a unique kind of struggle that comes with being both a sleepy girl and a busy girl. You know the type... your calendar is filled with work, social events, family obligations, workouts, and a never-ending to-do list. Yet, despite the ambition and the hustle, you’re still fighting the urge to crawl back into bed at 2 p.m. every. damn. day.

Sleepy girls don’t lack motivation. In fact, we’re often the ones powering through packed schedules, overachieving at work, and saying “yes” to everything because we want to show up fully in all areas of life. But being tired is our baseline. We don’t remember the last time we weren’t at least a little exhausted, and coffee has shifted from a treat to a survival tool.

The hard part? The world doesn’t exactly make space for sleepy girls. Productivity culture praises those who thrive on five hours of sleep and fueled by caffeine, while many of us need closer to nine hours and still wake up wondering if we’ve just completed a triathlon in our dreams. We hear advice like “wake up at 5 a.m. and get after it,” when what we really need is “don’t schedule anything important before 9 a.m., and for the love of all that’s holy, let’s normalize naps.”

Balancing ambition with exhaustion is tricky. You want to chase your career goals, nurture relationships, keep your home from turning into a laundry explosion (whoopsies), and maybe even have hobbies. But when you’re a sleepy girl, even the fun stuff, like a late dinner with friends, comes with the mental math of “how many hours of sleep am I about to lose?”

Still, sleepy girls make it work. We’ve perfected the art of functioning through yawns, showing up even when our beds are whispering sweet nothings, and squeezing joy into the small bursts of energy we get throughout the day. We might be tired, but we’re also resilient. (insert muscle emoji)

At the end of the day, being a sleepy girl with a busy life means living in the tension of wanting more hours in the day while desperately needing more hours in bed. It’s hard, yes... but it’s also a reminder that we’re human. We’re allowed to need rest, even in a world that glorifies burnout.

So here’s to all the sleepy girls juggling busy lives: may your coffee be strong, your naps be uninterrupted, and your friends always understand when you bail because you’re just too tired.

That's all from this sleepy girl for now...
