Rain, Pain, and a Half Marathon

Wow, nine years ago I ran a half marathon... It was a rainy, shitty day, but I ran it! I went 13.65 miles in 2 hours and 34 minutes. I honestly can't believe it and sometimes forget about it because I'm not a runner. I don't like to run; I actually despise it. My body and mind are not built for running. These thighs chafe, my mind gets bored, and I am constantly tripping over things and hurting myself (cue a level 4 sprained ankle three years ago trying to get back into running).

But that goes to show you that hard things are possible if you put your mind to it. I remember signing up for this race with two of my friends - they both backed out on me (cue sadness), then no one wanted to travel to come watch me (cue more sadness - but shoutout to mom who did), and then it POURED the whole time running (cue breaking point). But I kept going - as cliché as it is - one foot in front of the other.

Seeing that I was able to do this nine years ago with not a whole lot of training nor support reminds me that I can do the "hard" things. I can get through the "hard" times. It reminds me to keep going and keep aiming for the stars because one day I'll get there. Whether it's in 2 hours and 34 minutes or in another 10 years, it's important to keep reminding yourself.

So, here's to all the hard things we've done and all the hard things we will do. Keep pushing, keep striving, and remember that even on the rainiest, shittiest days, you can still cross that finish line.

Take care and keep running (or not)!

The name CW Design started as a reflection of my early passion for creativity and design. Since then, my journey (and even my name) have evolved, especially after marriage and branching into leadership and communications. While the original “me” who registered this domain has grown and changed, the core of who I am remains: a love for meaningful connections and creating work that truly matters.
