The Networking Event I Actually... Liked?

Ugh... A networking event.
Just reading that probably makes your shoulders inch up toward your ears... because same. Nothing spikes my anxiety quite like the words “small group dinner with strangers who are all accomplished and normal and probably know how to talk about themselves without sweating.”
So yes… I dreaded it. With passion.
But Passionfruit made it surprisingly easy.
Last night, Passionfruit hosted six of us (all marketing leaders across Cincinnati) for a dinner at Mita’s. And before you ask: no, my phone did not eat first. I know. The foodie in me was devastated. The way I wanted to sneak at least one picture of the food… the restraint I showed deserves an award. Because everything was stunning and delicious.
But the real star of the night? The conversation.
With just six of us, it didn’t feel overwhelming or performative. It wasn’t one of those huge networking events where you’re shouting over the noise, mentally checking out, or desperately pretending to remember someone’s name. It felt… natural. Warm. Encouraging, even.
Walking in, I had anxiety. I mean full-on “why did I say yes to this” energy. But walking out? I felt lighter. Inspired. Like, hey, maybe I’m not just surviving in this career... maybe I’m growing.
And honestly… hearing perspectives from outside the CRE industry was so refreshing. No offense to CRE but sometimes hearing how marketing leaders in other industries solve problems is incredibly stimulating. It shakes things loose. Gives you new angles. Reminds you that creativity isn’t boxed in by your sector.
I left with new connections, hopefully some new friendships, and definitely a new level of appreciation for stepping outside my comfort zone.
So Passionfruit - thank you. For curating a space that didn’t feel transactional or salesy. For bringing together brilliant professionals who are navigating similar challenges. And for not pitching us the entire dinner (bless you).
But also… when my team needs extra support? Yeah. You’re my first call.
Here’s to good food, new friends, and networking events that don’t make me sweat through my top.
